Tucked away in the scenic mountains of Western North Carolina, Polk County Gun Club is a welcoming home for shooters of all levels. Whether you’re dialing in your EDC, testing your competition setup, or simply enjoying a safe and structured match, this club offers both challenge and camaraderie—all with a view!

March 2025: A Solid Match & Strong Community
This month, nine shooters hit the range, showcasing experience and dedication. Every shooter was a veteran, and the friendly competition brought out the best in all. The weather played its part too – 68 degrees, sunny, with just enough breeze to keep things comfortable.
The variety in gear made for an interesting match. Half of the competitors ran red dots, though the strong sunlight sometimes made those dots mysteriously vanish. Others shot their everyday carry firearms, while some put their competition pistols to the test. Among them was ASI Primary Club Contact, Caton McBride, who’s top three favorites include a Glock 19X, 43X, and S&W 66.
Caton – pictured on the far right in the March match photo, is working hard to grow the ASI community by reaching out to local shooters, potential new clubs, and even a few indoor ranges. His credentials are impressive, bringing deep expertise and leadership to the club as a Retired Law Enforcement Officer, Law Enforcement Officer Firearms Instructor, and NRA Instructor for rifle, pistol, and Range Safety Officers. Right beside him, Tom Brooks, the club’s Chief Range Safety Officer, ensures every match is well-run and safe.
May 2025: Growing & Thriving
April saw an increase in turnout, with 14 shooters attending, including two new members joining the mix! The 72-degree weather, cloud cover, and smooth match flow made for an excellent day at the range. With precise shots, efficient pacing, and great camaraderie, the match was a success.
Expanding the Fun & Inviting New Members
Caton continues his efforts to bring ASI matches to recruit new clubs, including those across the North Carolina-South Carolina state line. Polk County Gun Club is the farthest ASI-affiliated club from ASI’s home office, and that hasn’t stopped it from being an enthusiastic hub for shooters eager to practice and compete.
